Foods That Cause Acid Reflux
There are a number of foods that can cause GERD or acid reflux disease and should be completely
avoided. These foods will relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This allows the stomach acid to back up
into the esophagus causing the acid reflux and causing heartburn and other symptoms of acid
reflux.
The foods that should be completely avoided are fatty foods that have high saturated fats such
as hamburgers and hot dogs. Spices and herbs that irritate the
stomach should also be completely avoided. Aerated drinks,
alcohol as well as coffee shouldn’t form part of diets for acid reflux.
Most fruits and vegetables are very good for a GERD diet. However, there are some fruits and vegetable that shouldn’t be taken at all
or should be taken in moderation. In fact, if they are taken as part of diets for acid reflux, they can also
increase the symptoms for acid reflux.
Other foods that cause acid reflux:
Tomatoes and tomato based sauces. Other citrus
fruits such as lemons, oranges, pineapple should also be avoided as they cause excess production of acid in
the stomach. Vegetables that can cause excess production of gas such as cauliflower, leeks, cabbage and beans

The foods that cause acid reflux also include drinks such as coffee, alcohol and soda based
drinks. All these drinks can make the LES sluggish and this can
cause a lot of trouble for those that suffer from acid reflux. Diets for acid reflux shouldn’t contain chocolate and fatty foods either.
